The Master’s Degree in Banking and Finance offers a global overview of the financial market, its leading players, deals and movements, covering a wide array of subjects. It provides students with a solid grounding enabling them to take their place on teams providing expert advice on finance and private banking matters in the following spheres: private banking departments at credit institutions, corporate finance departments, consultancy firms or firms specializing in the financial industry.
The course equips students with the skills and expertise necessary to optimize the structure and composition of assets of both individuals and legal entities, combining tax and financial opportunities.
The program has a practical focus, applying a special methodology for the provision of comprehensive advice that has been specifically designed by the teaching staff, based on best practices at leading financial institutions.
Graduates in Law, Economics, Business Studies or Engineering, although other graduates are welcome.
To offer comprehensive training to students wishing to practice professionally in the areas of private banking, the financial services industry, or corporate finance departments. The master’s degree is based on the following principles:
On successful completion of the master’s degree course, students will be awarded a "Master’s Degree in Banking and Finance" from Centro de Estudios Garrigues and a "Master’s Degree in Banking and Finance" postgraduate qualification from Universidad Antonio de Nebrija.
The ideal graduate/candidate is someone with sufficient intellectual ability, who is dedicated, committed and responsible, able to work in a team and has knowledge of at least one foreign language.
All subjects are compulsory and fall within the following areas:
“Financial Markets, Products and Transactions” has the most credits assigned to it. Its content (study of each of the existing financial products and transactions) constitutes the fundamental core of financial practice and private banking and, therefore, of the master’s degree program, around which the rest of the content is based.
The aim of "Private Banking Specialization Method" is to get to know and put into practice advisory techniques in private banking. This requires the integration of a range of content acquired throughout the master’s degree, through the analysis and resolution of increasingly complex case studies. Taught by professionals who specialize in each field, this is a key subject due to its focus on professional practice and is taught progressively throughout the program.
“Basic Financial Instruments” takes in several core disciplines considered essential for any professional offering financial and private banking advice (financial accounting or basic legal concepts, depending on each student’s primary degree, financial mathematics, financial services law, etc.).
“Taxation for Financial Advisers” analyses the various taxes that form part of the Spanish tax system, with particular emphasis on the taxes which have a more direct bearing on private banking advice. The tax impact is one of the most important aspects when designing financial products, meaning its analysis is fundamental for financial and private banking advisers.
Seminars include the skillset seminars, although, since the skills taught are multidisciplinary (oral and written communication, time management, mastery of IT tools, teamwork, etc.), they are also present in other subjects throughout the program.
“End of Degree Project”. This seeks to achieve the vertical integration of all knowledge and skills in each subject, helping students to attain a skills profile consistent with the objectives of the master’s degree and the demands of business and society. It also seeks to create a situation in which students are forced to take decisions under pressure, with limited time and scant information, in an attempt to mirror as closely as possible the situations faced by banking and finance executives.
“Internship”. Doing a business internship has several aims. Firstly, it is meant to serve as a bridge between life as a student and experience in the working world. It also affords students the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired and observe how this knowledge is applied in practice by seasoned professionals.
The content of each program is designed with practicing professionals in mind and with a view to supplementing the training of recent graduates in order to tailor their skills to the profiles sought by national and international companies, law firms and financial institutions.
The different programs are designed to strike the right balance between theory and practice. In other words, they combine a solid, well-structured theoretical base with its indispensable practical application in the business world.
An all-embracing approach
We offer an all-embracing approach to the materials studied, using case studies based on real national and international business scenarios and combining a range of disciplines. This allows students to gain an overall perspective of problems and encourages them to be creative in their search for innovative solutions.
All programs promote the learning and use of new technologies. In addition to offering IT seminars, we have a WiFi network that facilitates internet access and access to specialist databases. Furthermore, our Intranet enables students to communicate among themselves and with Center staff, as well as access a range of information sources: grades, academic calendars, alumni lists, library catalog, invitations and calls to various events, job advertisements, online courses, and so on.
In order to facilitate student participation in the sound running of each program, a student committee is set up for each master’s degree course to ensure a permanent communication channel with Center Management.
Skills and Attitudes
In addition to the acquisition of knowledge, the Center seeks to encourage the full development of professional skills and attitudes, such as a sense of responsibility, the ability to communicate, negotiation skills, and a willingness to cooperate and work in a team.
General qualifications of the teaching staff:
Three months after the end of the program, the graduate placement rate exceeds 90%
75% Banks, savings banks and other financial institutions in the areas of private banking, investment banking and corporate banking
14% Consulting and audit firms (mainly in areas of financial expertise)
9% Professional services firms (in departments relating to the financial markets).
2% Multinationals and major Spanish and international companies
There follows a list of some of the companies at which students on the Master’s Degree in Banking and Finance have held internships or subsequently pursued their professional career:
The teaching program of the master’s degree ends with a paid internship at a national or international company, law firm or financial institution.
The aim of these internships is to supplement students’ training by enabling them to apply the skills and knowledge acquired on the master’s degree course in a real working environment.
Internships last a minimum of 3 months, and may be extended depending on the student’s availability and the needs of the host company or firm.
Before starting an internship, a document is formalized with the company specifying the functions the student is to perform and the duration of the internship. The head of the Career Guidance Department receives this document from the company and validates its content as educational and associated with the master’s program.
Three months after the end of the program, the graduate placement rate exceeds 90%
With a view to assisting the Management of Centro de Estudios Garrigues, Advisory Boards have been set up for each of the master’s degree programs, composed of renowned professionals in the respective fields, who offer guidance on course content, monitor quality and ensure the proposed objectives are met.

Students will forfeit their student status at Universidad Antonio de Nebrija and will be removed from the roll in the following circumstances:
a) Students who, without just cause, fail to pass at least 20% of the ECTS credits for which they are enrolled in the corresponding academic year, naturally excluding any credits recognized or transferred.
b) Students who have exceeded the maximum number of examination attempts in any subject.
c) Students who, following their initial enrollment, have taken twice the envisaged time for the course, on a full-time basis, and have failed to pass the course, unless they provide valid justification, understood to be any grounds accepted by the University, such as, without limitation, compatibility of studies with professional activity or employment.
For the purposes provided in the applicable legislation in force, in order to ensure student mobility, recognition means the acceptance by Universidad Antonio de Nebrija of credits which, having been obtained on officially recognized courses, at this or any other university, are taken into account on other courses for the purpose of obtaining an officially recognized qualification. The following credits obtained by students will be recognized in new courses:
Credit transfer involves the inclusion in the official academic transcript of the courses taken by each student of credits obtained on previous officially recognized courses, at this or any other university, that did not lead to the obtainment of an official qualification.
Credit recognition and/or transfer must be requested by the student on enrollment. Exceptionally, a different time period may be established with express authorization. Students must also pay the fees stipulated for such purpose.
Students must present the following documentation to the Course Secretary’s Office:
The Course Secretary’s Office will send the submitted documentation to the Academic Committee of each department, which will decide whether to accept or reject the credit recognition and/or transfer request.
All credits obtained by the student on officially recognized courses studied at any university and any transferred, recognized and passed for the obtainment of the relevant qualification will be included in their academic transcript and reflected in the Diploma Supplement, if so requested.
Student mobility for business internships.
Another of our aims within the mobility area is for our students to complete their practical and international training by gaining professional experience in Europe. We advise and provide information for all students across the different degree programs on the Erasmus Mobility Project for Student Trainees, as well as on the different companies/economic areas where internships can be completed in Europe.
In line with previous years, the average duration of student internships abroad is 3 to 6 months. Personalized advice and knowledge of each and every one of our students enables us to align the needs of each company with the training needs of each student.
Each of our students/scholarship holders follows a work program defined by the company and supervised by the Center.
Students are required to present an End of Internship Report after completion of their international internship and hand in the company assessment report.
