Biography

Helena Prieto González is a partner in the criminal law department at Garrigues. After a period working in the M&A department of Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank, she joined the Spanish Public Prosecution Service in 2004 and has worked in that capacity in both Barcelona and Madrid. She was a prosecutor assigned to the Road Safety Office, a role which saw her participate in the 2007 reform of the Criminal Code in this area, as well as in the creation and deployment of road safety prosecution network.

In 2008, she joined the Office of the Attorney General of the State. She has served in the cabinets of three prosecutors-general — Cándido Conde-Pumpido, Eduardo Torres-Dulce, and Consuelo Madrigal — providing technical advice and participating in the drafting of the policy documents, legal guidance, and practice notes that form for legal corpus of the Public Prosecution Service.

Her areas of expertise include the criminal liability of legal entities, the development of compliance programmes, criminal offences related to the securities market, and economic crimes in general.

As head of the Garrigues Criminal Law internal investigations unit, she has led multiple cross-border investigations into multinational corporations to uncover transnational criminal offences.

She is a frequent speaker at criminal and procedural law forums.

She is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
