Centro de Estudios Garrigues has partnered with Fordham University, one of the oldest legal institutions in the United States, to design and offer a master’s degree specialised in international transactions and business law.

The Master of Laws in International Transactions (LLM) will provide you with an understanding of the common law system and the various disciplines of commercial law, as well as the legal consequences of the simultaneous application of the laws of different jurisdictions.

By offering a global and multidisciplinary education, the programme will complement your legal training as an experienced lawyer, in line with today’s international business environment. Such specialist training is key to future economic and social development.

It combines in-person periods in New York and Madrid with virtual sessions. The programme is delivered primarily in English, although some sessions or virtual content may be in Spanish.

Curriculum

The growing internationalisation of business transactions calls for lawyers with multidisciplinary training, a global outlook, and specific knowledge of the principles and fundamentals of common law.

Against this backdrop, in order to develop their careers, lawyers need to acquire specific skills and knowledge of the international legal situation on the ground, as well as of the legal implications of applying laws simultaneously across several jurisdictions.

The Master of Laws in International Transactions (LLM) helps supplement the legal training of reasonably experienced lawyers, in line with the current international business environment. Such specialist training is, in itself, key to future economic and social development.

The programme will address the different legal specialities related to international mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance practice, and the issues that expert lawyers regularly face when advising on multi-jurisdictional transactions.

Admission process

The admission process to study at Centro de Estudios Garrigues is open all year round, although enrolment in any of our programmes is subject to availability and suitability of the applicant’s profile for the programme in question. To complete the process, please follow these simple steps:

Admission requirements

In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, this programme is open to applicants who meet any of the following conditions:

  • Applicants who hold an official Spanish undergraduate degree or another qualification issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area that entitles the holder to access graduate studies in the issuing country.
  • Applicants who hold a degree from an educational system outside the European Higher Education Area may be admitted without the need to have their degrees homologated, provided that it can be verified that they accredit a level of education equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish undergraduate degree and that it is recognised in the issuing country as giving access to graduate studies. Access to the programme through this pathway does not imply, under any circumstances, the homologation of the previous qualification held by the applicant, nor its recognition for any purpose other than to study graduate programmes.

In the case of students with special educational needs arising from disability, appropriate support and guidance services will be provided to assess the need for possible curriculum adjustments or alternative pathways or studies.

Applicant profile

This programme is aimed at applicants with the following profile:

  • holders of an undergraduate degree in law, including dual degrees combining law and business administration; law and criminology; law and international relations, etc.;
  • holders of an undergraduate degree with at least one year of proven work/professional experience in the field of international transaction law;
  • holders of a degree or another qualification issued by a higher education institution that entitles the holder to access graduate studies in the issuing country and that is related to the field of specialisation of this programme;
  • English language proficiency at level B2 (or higher) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
